CARGOES - the videos
iN 2005 the Arts Council funded me in a year’s personal artistic development programme I called Time & Space. A substantial element of this was the Cargoes project, for which I travelled on a 17,000 tonne refrigerated-hold cargo ship (known as a ‘reefer’) from the port of Le Havre in Normandy to the Leeward and Windward Islands, across the Caribbean to the Baia de Turbo in Colombia, up the Isthmus to Puerto Limon in Costa Rica, returning by way of a second Atlantic crossing to Dover. One of the aims of Time & Space was to engage with the technology of the internet and rather than one feature-length work, Cargoes is a net based hypertext project consisting of a large body of poetry written during the voyage, an interlinked personal log describing the geographical and emotional contexts of the poetry, and short film works that develop the poetry and add further dimensions to the work.
This page currently gives access to the video elements of CARGOES adventure. I am currently moving the entire project to this site. This is work in progress, so please bear with me.
