new reed (with mark jenkin, 2002)
New Reed from Mark Jenkin on Vimeo. |
Produced, written and presented by me, directed, shot and edited by mark jenkin.
new reed was funded by the arts council as a literature project. it was an early experiment in the use of poetry in digital video, a form I continue to explore (see just outside the window, skath, triptych, cargoes and much else). all the narration for new reed was written during its shooting as poetry (you can actually see me doing it during the film). the film was shot in cornwall, england, spain and morocco - not bad on a budget of £2120! I like its collaborative nature, the sharing of skills and knowledge. The loss of this facet of cornish film will probably do for it, if that hasn't happened already. thanks to cmr (now cmr gallery) for the loan of the camera, a very very basic panasonic without a screen, with which mark did wonders. |
Stairs
We shot this experimental short short on the ferry returning from Santander to Plymouth. It's an early example of the 'lockdown' genre: you can't get much more locked down than a boat in the middle of the Bay of Biscay.
